Line Love: "If I poured all the lies I had told into the Mississippi, the river would rise and flood the city.” From OUT OF THE EASY, by Ruta Sepetys
Good morning, Biscuit!
What'd you say? We haven't blogged in a few weeks and you miss everybody? And you want me to tell them about the sweet old lady at PetSmart who hugged you and said you looked like a miniature polar bear?
Okay. I'll write a quick post to tell them that. You seriously made that lady's day. You make everybody's day!
But don't forget, we have a BIG deadline coming up, and we need to wrangle that thang before it wrangles us. So we'll write a quick post ... but then we have to work.
I know!! I know you would rather blog! I miss them too. But remember, they know that we think they're awesome. And they know that, much like Frosty the Snowman (which I still think is a very creepy song), we'll be back again someday. Someday very soon. We'll be back to our usual shenanigans next week. So I'm going to make some coffee, and grab a snack for you, and then we'll get to work. Okay?
*leaves to get caffeinated*
*returns to wrangle deadlines*
Uh ... Biscuit.
When I say "we need to work", I mean ... we actually need to work. We can't watch cartoons. We'll do something fun later, I promise. Okay? Okay!
*snatches computer*
*starts clickety-clicking the keys*
*clears throat*
Um ... Biscuit.
Are you just going to sit there and stare at me like that the whole time? You are? Fabulous. I don't know what I'd do without your help. *rolls eyes*
What's that? You want to do one picture on PhotoBooth?
Okay. ONE picture.
That's adorable! Now we really need to get back to wor--wait--Biscuit! What are you...
I said one picture! Biscuit!
*sighs*
Okay ... that one was pretty funny.
Yes, you made me laugh. You always do. You really are the coolest dog in the world.
I love you, too.
NATALIE!! I've been missing this blog! Welcome back...however briefly :) Have you read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern yet? I just finished it on Sunday and it was lovely...but you have to read it all the way through, no matter how confused you might get. The ending is SO worth it. And oh my goodness, lovely writing. There was one passage about stories that I HAD to bookmark to write down before doing anything else...Such a good book. And now I'm rereading To Kill a Mockingbird and loving it :) I read it once in eighth grade but didn't enjoy it near as much as I thought I should. I was ready to just slog through it, but oh my gosh, it's so good... No wonder it's a classic
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, crazily enough, I am almost done with high school :) Two more months and then GRADUATION!!!
So this made me laugh: "but you have to read it all the way through, no matter how confused you might get." ... because I gave up on it for the exact reason that I got confused. Ha :) I LOVED the writing, and I saw the stirrings of a love story (?) which, of course, I'm going to love. But I had a hard time keeping up with who was who and what was happening. But now that you've said this, I will obviously have to try it again. Now that i know there's a payoff if I soldier through to the end, I'l try again. And I agree about MOCKINGBIRD - some books resonate so much better as you get older. That book was one for me too. And so was A WRINKLE IN TIME.
DeleteCongrats on your graduation!! That's so exciting!! : )
This post is EXTREMELY adorable! (Not that all your posts aren't adorable, but this one is just extra-adorable!) You and Biscuit must come to Georgia SOON.
ReplyDeleteWill do. I miss you guys. I need to come bother you for an extended visit (like - a WHOLE WEEK - bwahahaha ;) Also I LOVE YOU LIKE WHOA. That is all. ; )
DeleteAw...Biscuit is so adorable! :)
ReplyDeleteI recently read the first two books in The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series and really enjoyed them. They're sort of middle grade and a mix of Lemony Snicket, Jane Eyre, Roald Dahl, etc. I really did love them, though maybe not quite as much as I expected to (I probably had unrealistically high expectations). They made me laugh and I'm so anxious to find out what happens next!
~Kristin
My mom likes that series! I haven't read it but I adore the covers. I need to check them out this summer. She's also a big fan of The Sisters Grimm series. Have you heard of that one?
Deletei don't think it counts as a new movie, but i can't stop watching les miserables! and i can't stop watching interviews with the cast. they're all so SMART. i think i need to find a way to convince anne hathaway to teach one of my lit classes or something. and eddie . . . oh eddie.
ReplyDeletethe book i'm drooling over right now is shauna niequist's new book, bread and wine. it's basically about how she connects to god and her friends and family through the act of preparing meals and gathering around a table with them, and it's just lovely. i don't have the full book yet, but she has the first few chapters posted on her website, and it's so great.
That Eddie Redmayne is a doll. (And I don't even feel skeezy saying it b/c I'm pretty sure he's around my age.) Did you see him in My Week with Marilyn? SO good in that. Les Mis was fantastic. I thought I'd need a nap when it was over. Talk about wringing out your heart - OH my word! :) I hope Anne and Hugh do more musicals together.
DeleteOk, Biscuit is adorable! Such a cute dog! And what a good helper too! :) Good luck with the deadlines. I wish I could tell you about some awesome books I'm reading, but nothing that has struck me as amazing. I need to read something good soon!
ReplyDeleteHave you read OUT OF THE EASY by Ruta Sepetys? I loved it. It's one of the best YA's I've read in a really, really long time. The voice is amazing. Considering the size, I wondered if the pace would be slower, but it was so snappy!! That's the one I've been hocking a bunch lately :) It's definitely a mature YA, could have easily been an adult book even. The main character, Josie, is pretty darn incredible.
DeleteIt's in my TBR pile! I'll move it up! :)
DeleteThis might be your cutest post yet! I love how Biscuit actually looks like he's smiling in that first photo-booth picture (which of course he is!) :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing your updates! I am so excited about the new Band Perry album that just came out and Kacey Musgrave's first album. Her song "Merry Go Round" give me chills...I know the rest of her songs will be so good as well!
I am about to graduate! So crazy. I really can't believe in two months I'll be done with high school. I'm going to the University of Texas! It was a really tough, stressful decision for me but I think God has awesome plans for me there.
hope you're having a great week :)
Courtney. Clearly, we would get along well on a roadtrip because I am an ardent fan of The Band Perry. I am also nuts about Kasey Musgraves' "Merry Go Round". That's some gorgeous songwriting. I've been in a major country phase lately. i've always liked country music, but lately I can't get enough of it. I love Miranda Lambert (of course) and Blake and Luke Bryan and Brad Paisley ("Southern Comfort Zone" is so fun!). I also love slightly older cm - like George Strait, Garth Brooks, etc. It's good stuff.
DeleteCongrats on your graduation!! How excitining! College decisions are so tough and stressful. But let me encourage you this way: you can change your mind about majors and all that. I feel like there's such a pressure in going to college that you have to KNOW exactly how the next four years will roll out. Nobody can possibly be expected to know that. If your heart starts pulling you in a new direction, don't be afraid to explore it. (Also - Hook em' ;)
I loved this post! Aren't dog's facial expressions the best? :) I have a similar relationship with my dog, Gracie, who never fails to make us laugh.
ReplyDeleteAre the updates related to another book you're writing?!!! Because that would be amazing. I ordered Paperdoll for one of my good friends that is navigating the rough waters of high school right now. I'm super excited to give it to her, because it's something I wished I'd read in high school! (Seriously.)
I'm not technically graduating, but I am transferring soon from City College to a university in the fall! I'm beyond excited!
Happy April to you and Biscuit too! :)
This was a great idea for "I'm too busy to blog" post. Love it!
